Health is wealth

The past three weeks have been the darkest days of my life.I was attacked. Ah! sounds pretty dramatic huh, hehe, thankfully the attacker was very tiny, but it certainly proved its might. I was struck by a virus, and it infected me with viral conjuctivitis. This is not the ordinary red eye which just causes minor inconvenience of wearing sunglasses for 3-4 days when one leaves the house. Oh no! This was a rare form, which is presently in season in my city, informs the doc, like it was some kind of fruit!
I passed through its various stages. First, severe swelling and bloodshot eyes which watered constantly. That lasted for more than 2 weeks. I was in house arrest during this period which is understandable, coz I was a scary sight. The doc kept repeating his standard dialogue tht its a viral infection..thre is no cure..it will take its time. All this while I was having nightmares of not being perfectly fit to report for my training which was 4 weeks away. Then slowly it gets worse, my vision gets blurred, and any form of light begins to hurt my eyes. When I closed them it felt like I had grains under my eye lids, causing severe irritation. There was just no respite from it. The cornea specialist says, the virus has infected my cornea, give it time. By now time was one thing I was running out of!!
Those days were the longest days of my life. Till now I was enjoying my hols watching tv, spending hours on the net, watching movies, piano lessons, catching up on the big pile of novels I had collected for my hols, doing embroidery work. Suddenly there was nothing I could do and I had to stay away from everyone coz the infection was highly contagious. I counted seconds turn to minutes, minutes turn to hours. Lying on the couch in frt of the tv, "listening to it". By the third week, the swelling and redness was gone. I was just partially blind ...the world was a blurred place to me.
This episode made me realise how precious my eyes are. It is truly a blessing to be able to look around and watch the miracles of life and beauties of nature. Now by the fourth week, my vision is finally back to normal and i can go out on my own. Thank god! Just 5 days before my joining date. What a nightmare this month has been.

I would have died of boredom and frustration had it not been for the support of my friends and parents. I hope I dont have to go through such an experience again.. but things rarely happen the way we want to, in this world.

p.s : I agree viral conjuctivitis isnt as deadly as chicken pox or tb. I hope I dont get the chance to compare them. So, as far as my experience goes, its a terrible disease to be inflicted with and I hope the virus goes to hell. Stay healthy :)
